Britannia first appeared on coins during the reign of Emperor Hadrian nearly 2,000 years ago. Restored to British coinage in 1672 under the reign of Charles II, she has appeared on the coins of every subsequent monarch. Reassuring and resolute, she is a steadfast figure in times of crisis or celebration—the personification of a nation’s spirit. Instantly recognizable around the world, Britannia resonates with international investors as a trusted symbol of British minting excellence.
The icon returns once again with the latest release in the Royal Mint's Britannia Collection. Launched in 1987, Britannia is one of the most highly anticipated bullion releases. Philip Nathan’s original design, which graced the very first Britannia bullion coin, is an acclaimed modern classic and appears on the reverse.
On the obverse, you will see Jody Clark’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This will be the fifth and final effigy of Queen Elizabeth II in the Britannia series.
